What Is Quillette?

We are a daily online magazine offering free thought to readers around the world, primarily in the realm of culture, science, tech, politics and current affairs.

Our guiding principles include:

  • Respect for civil and open debate
  • Commitment to the search for objective truth
  • The desire to move towards a consilience between the arts and sciences

Each week our global readership grows. We’re currently approaching an astounding 1 million unique visitors a month. When we imagine the contours of the magazine we are working to build, you are the foundation.

How are we funded?

We are funded through a voluntary subscription model that is facilitated by the crowdfunding service Patreon.

Quillette has chosen to remain almost 100 percent community funded.*

The benefits of staying independent are manifold: we are not beholden to any sponsor or agenda. Therefore the most important feedback we receive is from our valued readers and patrons.

How does Patreon work?

This simply is a crowdfunding platform where you pledge a monthly donation. Think of it as a voluntary subscription service where you decide the amount you would like to pay.

Importantly, you are never locked in — you can opt out or change your pledge at any time.

All contributions are deeply appreciated.

We also accept once-off or monthly donations via PayPal.

It’s an exciting time as people like you discover us. Our community is growing rapidly and 2019 is going to be a big year in the life of Quillette. We hope you’ll continue to be a part of it.

Warmly, on behalf of the team,
Claire Lehmann
Editor-in-Chief

And here is just a sample of what some readers you may know are saying:

“ Quillette is an island of sanity in a sea of madness. Care about free thought? Please support Quillette.

— Christina Hoff Sommers, AEI Scholar and author of Who Stole Feminism? and The War Against Boys

“Quillette
is unique and indispensable. It publishes essays of high quality on vital topics that can’t be found anywhere else. And its diversity is unsurpassed — not just in race and gender (where, as it happens, it bests many other webzines) but also in age (where it has discovered several brilliant young writers) and, most important, in ideas.”

— Steven Pinker, psychology professor and author of The Blank Slate and Enlightenment Now, The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism and Progress.

“In just a few years, Quillette has become the must-read champion of Enlightenment values. Its magic is its shameless rationality. Every article deepens your gratitude for our intellectual heritage, and opens your mind in a new way. If you respect human nature and civilization, support Quillette.

— Geoffrey Miller, evolutionary psychologist, author of The Mating Mind, Spent, and Mate

“Quillette is like a vaccine against the madness of our world.”

— Peggy Sastre, French journalist and author of No Sex, Avoir Envie de ne pas Faire l’Amour

“Real journalism.”

— Jordan B. Peterson, psychology professor, philosopher and author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos

“You’re doing great work. Keep going.”

— Sam Harris, neuroscientist, philosopher and author of Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion
